Our Take: The Balayage Blues and the Brunette’s Purple Reign

Okay, let’s talk about it. We’ve all been there, right? You’ve just invested in that gorgeous balayage, those sun-kissed streaks that whisper tales of summer holidays and effortless chic. You’re feeling yourself, you’re living your best glamorous life, and then… the brass creeps in. Suddenly, your cool-toned highlights are looking less like a sophisticated French Riviera vibe and more like a startled canary. Enter the hero, or perhaps the slightly mischievous sidekick, of our hair story: purple shampoo. And for us brunettes venturing into this shimmering world, it can feel like deciphering a secret code. Is it for us? How often do we dare to dip our strands into this violet elixir? It’s a question that sparks a delightful little bit of hair chaos, and honestly, we’re here for the ride.

The great purple shampoo debate for brunettes with highlights is a testament to the beautifully complex world of hair color. It’s not as straightforward as a full head of platinum, and that’s what makes it interesting! When we see a question like, “how often do you guys use it and when you use it do you use your normal shampoo etc in the same wash or only use the purple?” it’s a breath of fresh, relatable air. It’s the kind of question that arises from a place of genuine desire to look and feel amazing, but also a healthy dose of "what am I even doing here?" This is where the magic happens, where we can take something potentially intimidating – a potent toning shampoo – and make it feel accessible, even fun. It’s about understanding that a little bit of informed experimentation can lead to some seriously empowered hair moments.

So, to our fellow hair adventurers navigating the balayage blues, the answer to the purple shampoo question for brunettes is a resounding, "It depends, but let's make it work!" Think of it as a confidence booster for your highlights. You don't need to use it every single wash; think of it more as a targeted strike against unwanted warmth. A good rule of thumb is to start with once a week, or even less, and see how your hair responds. And yes, you can absolutely use your regular shampoo and conditioner in the same wash. The purple is the special guest star, there to do its toning work, not to replace your entire routine. It's about finding that sweet spot where your balayage stays crisp and cool, without turning your hair into a lavender field. It's all part of the glamorous, sometimes chaotic, journey of maintaining fabulous hair.

This might be the wrong subreddit for this question, but I am a new user to purple shampoo/conditioner since I am brunette and using it for highlights/balayage. How often do you guys use it and when you use it do you use your normal shampoo etc in the same wash or only use the purple? I have 2c/3a hair if that makes any difference either. Thanks in advance!
