Blow Dryer Damage? Glam Girl's Guide to Hearing Protection

Hey, glam squad!

3 min readBeauty

Okay, let's talk about the real chaos that can ensue when glam meets the everyday. I recently stumbled upon this brilliant query from a fellow girlie who’s just dived headfirst into the glorious world of blow-drying. She’s discovered the magic of cool settings for hair health (major shoutout for that insight!), but then, BAM, the dreaded thought of hearing damage creeps in. It’s a classic case of aspiration meeting a touch of, shall we say, *unforeseen* consequences. The question is, do we have to ditch our trusty styling tools for the sake of our eardrums, or is there a chic way to navigate this? Are we, as a community of fabulous individuals, actually using hearing protection, or is this a glamorous blind spot we're all collectively ignoring?

Honestly, the idea of my favorite tools potentially causing harm is pretty jarring. It's like finding out your favorite designer handbag secretly hates puppies. But here's the thing about glamour and self-care: it’s not about perfection, it’s about embracing the journey with a healthy dose of humor and a willingness to learn. If blow-drying at high heat is indeed a silent saboteur of our hearing, then yes, we absolutely need to have a conversation. And if the answer involves earplugs, well, let’s just say I’m picturing some seriously avant-garde options. Perhaps we can find something that complements our outfit, or at least doesn't clash with our carefully curated aesthetic. The goal isn't to surrender our beauty routines, but to empower ourselves with knowledge and find solutions that allow us to shine without sacrificing our well-being.

This brings us to the core of what it means to be confident and empowered. It’s not just about rocking a couture gown on the red carpet; it’s about having the intelligence and the humor to address the less glamorous, but equally important, aspects of our lives. It’s about being relatable enough to admit we might not have all the answers, and savvy enough to seek them out. So, to our fellow girlie who sparked this important discussion: thank you. Your curiosity is precisely the kind of energy that fuels genuine connection and positive change. Let’s explore this together, with plenty of humor and a commitment to keeping our glamour both heard and seen.

As a girlie who recently started blowdrying my hair (i swear as long as it's on a cool setting, it saves my hair from more breakage! super recommend), I've seen some things about how they can cause hearing damage.. which is super scary lol.

So, do I have to give up my blowdryer? or is there some form of hearing protection that you guys use, like ear plugs? Are we even using any protection at all?
