Our Take: Bye Bye, Shine: Taming Oily Skin Without Makeup

Okay, let's talk about that eternal struggle: the oil slick that seems to have taken up permanent residence on your face. First off, major props for the no-makeup approach. Embracing your natural skin, even when it’s throwing a bit of a tantrum with excess shine, is a confidence move in itself. It’s like rocking a killer couture gown without a single accessory – it just *works* if you own it. And hey, if makeup is a recipe for breakouts and looking less "effortlessly chic" and more "sweaty mess," then it’s absolutely not the solution. Your dermatologist's prescription is your non-negotiable anchor, so keep that going strong.

Now, about that niacinamide serum from The Ordinary – it's definitely a cult favorite for a reason, and many people find it helpful in regulating oil production. Think of it as a sophisticated ingredient in your skincare arsenal, working behind the scenes to keep things in check. It’s not a magic bullet, but it can be a fantastic addition to your routine, especially if you’re looking for something to tackle oil without clogging pores or causing drama. Just remember to introduce it slowly, as with any new active ingredient, to see how your skin reacts.

Beyond the niacinamide, let’s get into a few other strategies that can help you feel less like you’re auditioning for a role in a heatwave documentary. Double cleansing can be a game-changer; starting with an oil-based cleanser to break down sebum and impurities, followed by a gentle water-based cleanser, can leave your skin feeling remarkably balanced. Also, consider incorporating a clay mask once or twice a week. These are like a spa day for your pores, drawing out excess oil and leaving your skin feeling refreshed and mattified. And while we’re embracing the no-makeup glow, don't underestimate the power of a good, lightweight, oil-free setting spray. A spritz can help meld your skincare together and offer a subtle veil of control throughout the day, without adding any heavy product. It’s all about finding that balance where your skin feels cared for, balanced, and, dare we say, even a little bit glamorous in its natural state.

My skin is insanely oily all the time and I strictly do not use any skin makeup whatsoever (concealer, powder, foundation, etc) because it makes me break out and looks god awful on me so that isn’t an option..anyways I use a super lightweight moisturizer along with an acne treatment my dermatologist prescribed me. I’ve heard about the Ordinary niacinamide serum helping to control oil production.. should I try it? What else could I do to stop this problem I hate looking sweaty
