Our Take: Giving Your Glam a Second Act

Let’s talk about the glorious chaos that is a beauty stash. We’ve all been there, right? A dazzling array of lipsticks that promise the moon, serums that whisper of eternal youth, and eyeshadow palettes that are practically works of art. It’s a testament to our love affair with all things glamorous, a personal collection of confidence boosters and mood lifters. But then comes the moment of reckoning, when the drawers overflow and the vanity groans under the weight of potential. You’ve sampled that shade of fuchsia one too many times, or perhaps that miracle cream didn't quite perform the miracles it advertised. The thought of tossing perfectly good, albeit not quite *you* anymore, products feels… well, a little tragic. It’s a relatable conundrum, this feeling of abundance mixed with a touch of guilt.

The good news is, your pre-loved potions and powders can absolutely find a second life, spreading a little bit of that much-needed glamour to those who might need it most. Think of it as passing the torch of confidence. While returning items might be a distant dream, the act of donating is a powerful statement of resourcefulness and generosity. For those of us in the suburban Chicago area, or willing to play postman with our beauty treasures, there are some fantastic avenues to explore. Organizations dedicated to supporting women experiencing homelessness, for instance, often welcome these very items. A fresh tube of lipstick or a revitalizing moisturizer can feel like a small luxury, a moment of self-care and dignity in challenging circumstances. It’s about more than just makeup; it’s about empowerment, delivered one perfectly good product at a time.

The beauty of this endeavor lies in its simplicity and its impact. It’s a chance to declutter with purpose, transforming what might feel like excess into genuine support. Instead of letting these items languish, they can become tools for rebuilding confidence and offering comfort. So, before you consider them destined for the bin, take a moment to explore the possibilities. Your generosity, coupled with a dash of that signature playful spirit, can ensure that a little bit of everyday glamour continues to shine, even when the circumstances are far from it. It’s a win-win: your space gets an upgrade, and someone else receives a welcome boost.

From Beauty

I'm trying to declutter my makeup/skincare collection. I have some unused or lightly used makeup and skincare products that I don't want anymore, but it's been too long to return. (They aren't expired though.) It would seem wasteful to just throw them away though since they are still good to use. Does anyone know of any charities that you can donate beauty products to, like for homeless women and such?

I live in the suburban Chicago area, but I would be fine with mailing it as well.
