How do I prevent my hair from being damaged when swimming?
Our take
My hair is basically dead at this point. I bleached it about two years ago, and that was the start of its downfall, though it wasn’t nearly as bad then as it is now, especially after I recently went swimming.
We go on vacations often, and it’s pretty common for my hair to turn crusty and extra dry every time I swim in a pool, but it usually goes back to normal after a day or a few days. I assume it’s because of the chlorine.
Fast forward to a week ago when we went swimming again, my hair has been in the worst state it’s ever been. It’s so dry I can barely brush it, and it’s literally turning crunchy. I made sure to wash it thoroughly, and I’ve been using conditioner because that usually helps. This time, though, nothing seems to be fixing it. I’m guessing the pool had a much higher chlorine level than usual.
Does anyone know what I can do to repair it, or at least reduce the damage? And is there any way to prevent this from happening the next time I swim?
