16-35mm resentment thread (specifically the 16)

Why do so many wide zooms start at 16? I would MUCH rather have a 18-40 or 21-50. Even with the best controlled distortion possible going wider than 21 always looks gimmicky and wonky to me. No hate to architecture guys or whoever actually takes good ultra wide photos but it's not my thing. I have a 16-35 and 28-70 and it's annoying because I know they could easily make a killer 21-50 that could replace both (for me anyway) but they want to make us buy two zooms. I'd be willing to pay a big premium for a "specialty" lens like that it's fine! I hate having to decide which one to bring! Curse you photo manufacturers! Curse you! (Can I please have a 21-50 or 22-60 actually though?)
