Here's a good idea of the conditions battery cage hens live in

| Two of these chickens are bovens brown chickens And two of them are Isa Browns, two common type of brown egg layers kept in battery cages, so this is the best size comparison I can offer so you know how big the cage is compared to the birds they have in them, this cage is exactly four square feet I put four birds in it and this is more room than battery cage hens would be lucky to get, I'm only making this post because though most people know battery cages are bad most don't know exactly how bad, I'm pretty sure most people that keep chickens in battery cages would possibly even keep five birds in this cage, of course the battery cages are larger than this one but each bird still has less than one square foot of space per bird, and that's what they get for their whole life never even getting to see the sun. And for those of you concerned about these four ladies, they were in there for like 2 seconds just for the pictures they were let back out and I gave them some mealworms as payment, they look a bit rough right now just because they're wet and a couple of them are starting to molt [link] [comments] |
